Labor Day: Today is the day that working people are honored in the U.S. It signifies the end of summer for many people. In an interesting twist, a similar holiday celebrated in the United Kingdom is celebrated in May — and called May Day.

Labor Day became a national holiday in 1894, signed into law by President Grover Cleveland and approved by the U.S. Congress. The state of Oregon, meanwhile, was the first state to have a Labor Day holiday, which they celebrated in 1887.
Labor Day is also one of the three holidays considered most dangerous in terms of automobile accidents. When combined with Thanksgiving Day and Independence Day, the average loss of life is over 500 Americans each year.
Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling, avoid drinking and driving and avoid texting while driving in order to make it safely to your destination.
