A Port Allegany woman is in McKean County Jail for allegedly slapping and choking a teenage female Friday morning.
Michele Ann Crawford, 39, of Route 155, is charged with strangulation, a second-degree felony; simple assault, DUI, possession of a small amount of marijuana and of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors; and harassment and careless driving, summary offenses.
According to the criminal complaint, Friday morning, a teenage female went to the nurse’s office at her school with a bloody nose, and told the school counselor she had been assaulted by Crawford. She told police that she had been choked and slapped, the complaint read.
Officers went to Crawford’s home and smelled a strong odor of marijuana, and called the state police barracks for a search warrant while they waited for Crawford to return home. She came home and got out of her car, and police said she showed signs of impairment. She told police she had argued with the female and when the female called her a name, she slapped her, the complaint read.
Crawford consented to a field sobriety test, and was placed under arrest for DUI, the complaint stated. A search of her home yielded drug paraphernalia and marijuana, according to the police.
She was arraigned before District Judge Bill Todd and remanded to jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. She is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Sept. 5.
