A Bradford man is facing allegations he made a false statement on a form while trying to buy a firearm.
Robert B. Densmore, 35, of 25 Leland Ave., was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on charges of materially false written statement—purchase, delivery, transfer of firearm, a third-degree felony, and statement under penalty, a third-degree misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaint, on April 26, a Bradford City police officer was asked to investigate the attempted purchase of a firearm.
The complaint stated that on April 25, 2016, while filling out an application/record of sale form for firearms, Densmore alleged answered “no” to question No. 31, which asks if certain conditions — such as being a person who “has been adjudicated as an incompetent or has been involuntarily committed to a mental institution for inpatient care and treatment” — apply to the applicant.
According to the complaint, Densmore provided a false answer to the question, as he had been involuntarily committed for mental health treatment at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
Densmore complied with a request to meet the officer at the Bradford City police station. At first, he told the officer he wanted to find a lawyer and no interview was going to be held.
However, Densmore then told the officer he tried to purchase a firearm at Walmart but was denied during the background check. The officer explained to Densmore that Walmart was in Foster Township and not in his jurisdiction. Then, Densmore said he tried to buy a pistol at a store in Bradford, the complaint stated.
Densmore is free on $2,500 unsecured bail, and he is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Sept. 5.
