School is back in session, and Tuesday’s first day for Bradford Area School District was a good one.
Despite some school busses a little behind schedule, Superintendent Katharine Pude said the first day of school went “very smoothly” throughout the district.
“Some of the busses were a little behind, but that’s typical early on. Otherwise, it was a fabulous day across our district,” she told The Era.
The day went well for everybody — including students attending their first day in a new school, which can be nerve-wracking for some.
“We had transition camps throughout the summer so kids could get used to the new buildings,” explained Pude. “So it was extremely smooth across the district.”
She added the day went “remarkably well” for children in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
“Because we did the transition camps in the summer, kids weren’t as afraid of school on the first day,” the superintendent said. “There were, of course, a few kids crying who missed their parents, but everything went very well.”
Pude explained that one of the joys for students of all ages is seeing the faculty they have befriended. Additionally, the school resource officers have also made many young friends who share a strong bond.
Pude said, “They get excited to see all of the staff they know and they love seeing the school resource officers. Especially the elementary students, they’ve formed a very close bond.”
Pude again asked for parents and students to be patient and not panic if busses get behind schedule, which typically happens while the school district is getting back into a rhythm. Things will level out quickly.
She added that she is thankful for the administration for making Tuesday a great first day of school.
Pude said, “The faculty and staff really worked hard to make sure everything would be smooth, and it really was.”
