CLEARFIELD — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is alerting motorists that work on a bridge replacement in Eulalia Township, Potter County, is underway.
The bridge spans Lehman Run on U.S. Route 6, about three miles west of Coudersport near Olmstead Road. Replacing the bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Potter County’s list of bridges in poor condition.
The bridge will be replaced using half-width phasing. Temporary traffic signals were placed last week and are currently set to flash mode. They will become fully operational today and begin enforcing an alternating traffic pattern that will see eastbound and westbound traffic take turns crossing the structure. The contractor will then begin demolition of the existing structure and half-width construction of the new precast concrete box culvert.
Construction will begin on the right (eastbound) lane heading toward Coudersport. PennDOT will issue an update prior to the next phase of the project when work shifts to the left (westbound) lane heading away from Coudersport.
The existing 10-foot structure was constructed in 1919 and carries an average of nearly 3,750 vehicles each day.
The overall project entails replacement of the existing reinforced concrete slab bridge, approximately 700 feet of roadway reconstruction, drainage improvements, and guide rail replacement. PennDOT expects to open the new bridge to two-lane traffic by late-October. Horizon Construction Group Inc. of Sandy Lake is the contractor for this $800,000 project.
All work is weather and schedule dependent.
