BRADFORD – The Community Blood Bank will be hosting a blood drive on Aug. 26 from 12 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Bernards Catholic Church on 95 E. Corydon St. Walk-ins are welcome and appointments are available.
Fall is right around the corner and with fall comes football! Donate blood during the month of August and be automatically entered to win two NFL tickets to watch your favorite regional team! You can choose a game between the Steelers, Browns, Bills or Eagles. The CBB is currently in a critical blood shortage with less than a one-day supply of type O+ and O- blood.
“We know fall is a busy time of the year. You are busy trying to get the kids ready to go back to school, squeezing in last-minute vacations or trying to enjoy what is left of the nice weather before the snow comes. However, the need for blood is year-round. Donating blood takes around a half-hour from start to finish, from signing in to eating snacks. We hope people can find time in their schedules to help save lives,” said Jaclyn Seymour, community relations specialist for the Community Blood Bank.
Individuals are eligible to give blood if it has been 56 days since their last donation, they are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, have not received a tattoo or body piercing in the past 12 months, are in good general health and do not have a cold or flu. You must have a valid photo ID in order to donate. Prior to donating, those giving blood should eat a good, solid meal and drink at least 18 oz. of water.
