CLEARFIELD — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that a new box culvert on Route 66 (James City Hill Road) in Wetmore Township has been opened to traffic. The box culvert replaces the previous bridge — eliminating it from the list of McKean County bridges in “poor” condition. The box culvert spans Wind Run about two miles south of Kane and carries an average of almost 1,700 vehicles daily.
With the new structure open to traffic, the official 40-mile detour that has been in place since July 29 has been lifted.
This $365,000 project has been a joint effort between PennDOT McKean County Maintenance and The L.C. Whitford Company, Inc. of Wellsville, NY. PennDOT performed excavation of the old bridge and backfill of the new box. The contractor performed installation of the box culvert, paving, and guide rail placement.
