CLEARFIELD — Motorists traveling through Jones Township in Elk County will be reminded to obey the posted speed limit.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation recently announced the placement of a radar-controlled speed display sign on U.S. Route 219 near Old Kane Road. The sign will aid in curbing speeding, a common type of aggressive driving.
Facing southbound traffic, the sign utilizes radar to determine the speed of oncoming traffic, which is then posted on the lighted section of the sign. The speed limit is 35 mph where the new speed display sign is located. It will remain there for up to four weeks and will then be turned to face northbound traffic.
Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of crashes and fatalities in Pennsylvania.
