SMETHPORT — A Smethport woman accused of assaulting a nurse and trying to get a teen to jump out a window with her entered pleas Thursday in McKean County Court.
Leslie D. Billyard, 42, pleaded guilty in one case to a charge of aggravated assault, and she pleaded no contest in a second case to a charge of recklessly endangering another person. A no contest plea was offered in the second case because Billyard was intoxicated and did not remember the incident.
According to District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer, on April 7, Billyard, who was on a stretcher receiving medical treatment, struck a nurse in the back of the head, causing pain to the nurse; then, on July 18, Billyard, while intoxicated, tried to get a 14-year-old to jump out of a window with her to commit suicide.
She will be sentenced Sept. 12.
Also in court, Amber L. Harris, 23, of Bradford, will serve six months to two years in McKean County Jail with credit for 325 days of time served for charges in two cases. She’s charged in one with simple assault and in the second with criminal trespassing and receiving stolen property. Court records filed in 2017 alleged that Harris kicked a pregnant woman in the stomach and stole items from her landlord’s shed to sell.
Matthew J. Wells, 24, of Bradford, will serve 80 days to 23 ½ months in McKean County Jail with credit for 65 days of time served and pay $8,419.17 in restitution for a charge of simple assault. On July 11, Wells pleaded guilty to allegations that on March 23, he punched a male in the face about four times; it was severe enough the victim felt like his jaw was broken, and he suffered bruising and a missing tooth.
Curtis D. Howard, 30, of Bradford, will serve four to 23 ½ months in McKean County Jail with credit for 109 days of time served and pay $1,046.55 in restitution for a charge of forgery. Howard pleaded guilty July 11 to allegations that between March 8 and 22, he forged two checks for Allegheny Store Fixtures that totaled $1,046.55
Natasha J. M. Canfield, 27, of Port Allegany, will serve four to 16 months in state prison with credit for 116 days of time served for a charge of escape. On July 11, Canfield pleaded guilty to allegations that on April 22, she removed herself from her handcuffs when she was being arrested on a bench warrant for absconding and fled into the woods.
Brian Wedge, 34, of Bradford, was ordered to serve 21 days to one year in McKean County Jail with credit for 11 days of time served for charges of simple assault and make repairs/sell/etc. offensive weapon. Wedge pleaded guilty June 27 to allegations that on April 12, he put two people in fear of bodily injury, saying, “If you want to go, we’ll go.” Also, he possessed two prohibited knives: one that opened with a switch button and one that opened with a push button.
Austin J. H. Tankersley, 25, of East Smethport, pleaded guilty to one charge of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer. On July 12, a Smethport police officer tried to pull Tankersely over near the fairgrounds in Smethport, but Tankersley failed to stop, said Assistant District Attorney Ashley Shade. He will be sentenced Aug. 29.
Nicholas I. Leonard, 30, of Kane, pleaded guilty to a charge of simple assault. Between Feb. 13-22, Leonard picked up a woman by her arms and threw her to the ground, hurting her tailbone, said Shaffer. He will be sentenced Sept. 12.
Shawn A. King, 28, of Cyclone, will serve 16 days to one year in McKean County Jail with credit for 10 days of time served for charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Brandon E. Benjamin, 20, of Bradford, will serve one year of probation and pay $240 in restitution for a charge of conspiracy to commit theft by unlawful taking. On July 11, Benjamin pleaded guilty to allegations that between March 1 and 17, he conspired with Gregory Benavidez in the theft of $200 worth of merchandise from the Chestnut Street Uni-Mart in Bradford, $20 from the family of a deceased person and a flash drive belonging to Bradford City Police that had evidence of another crime on it.
Jason A. Gaberseck, 43, of Eldred, will serve five years in the Intermediate Punishment Program for charges of DUI-alcohol/controlled substance.
Daryl W. Hillard, 65, of Lewis Run, will serve five years in the Intermediate Punishment Program for a charge of DUI-prescription medication.
Krista L. Hartzell, 34, of Port Allegany, will serve 18 months of probation for a charge of conspiracy to commit retail theft. Hartzell pleaded guilty July 11 to allegations that on Dec. 23, she agreed with a 16-year-old juvenile that one or both of them would take $838.71 in merchandise from Walmart.
Daniel J. Stidd, 38, of Bradford, will serve one year of probation, six months in the Intermediate Punishment Program and pay $500 in restitution for charges in two cases. He is charged in one case with DUI-alcohol and in the second with accident involving damage to attended vehicle or property and a summary charge.
David F. Burns, 54, of Bradford, will serve 15 days to one year in jail with credit for 42 days of time served for a charge of harassment and summary charges. On July 11, Burns pleaded guilty to allegations that on April 16, he approached two elderly neighbors, clenched his fists, screaming, and urged the male to fight him; then, he threw boards on the neighbors’ property.
Brook L. Bottorf, 25, of Bradford, will serve seven days to six months in McKean County Jail for charges of DUI-combination drugs/alcohol and summary charges.
Jason M. Graves, 41, of Bradford, will serve 48 hours to six months in McKean County Jail for charges of DUI-alcohol and a summary charge.
Ashley N. Chapman, 31, of Bradford, will serve six months in the Intermediate Punishment Program for a charge of DUI-general impairment and summary charges.
Carl J. Irons, 22, of Lewis Run, will serve six months of probation for a charge of DUI-general impairment and a summary charge.
Tyler A. Yohe, 30, of Bradford, will pay a $250 fine and statutory fines and costs for a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use and summary charges.
