LIST: Since the movie “The Bucket List” came out, the idea of having a to-do list before death has gained significant popularity.
In the movie, actor Morgan Freeman plays Carter Chambers, a terminally ill man roped into completing his bucket list, with the trip financed by billionaire Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson). The duo enjoy some entertaining and fulfilling tasks, including skydiving and climbing the Pyramids.
In recognition of this bucket list trend, Penn Live has a “Pennsylvania Bucket List” that includes recommended things to see or do within the state before you move on from this life. How many things are on this bucket list?
28.
Among the recommendations are:
For the sports fan, the list includes attending a Little League World Series game in Williamsport. The event draws sports enthusiasts from around the world, and ESPN has been involved in recent years due to increasing popularity. A visit to the Little League Museum is also a part of this adventure, as it is located in the area as well.
For the historic-minded and those who just want to experience our history and political atmosphere, a tour of the Capitol Rotunda in Harrisburg is on the list as well. This is free and allows the visitor to enjoy an area filled with marble, gold leaf, murals completed by Edwin Austin Abbey and, some say, one of the most beautiful state capitols in the US.
Gettysburg and a tour of the battlefields is most definitely on the list. Meanwhile, Centralia, the 9/11 memorial in Stoystown, outside of Shanksville, and riding the incline in Pittsburgh all make appearances as well.
For those who want outdoor adventure, indoor revelry or simply the chance to enjoy good food and drink without leaving our state’s boundaries — they all make the list in some form.
