A Ridgway man is in jail for allegedly shooting from his vehicle and then fleeing the scene, leading police on a brief chase.
Adam Jones, 40, is charged with possessing a firearm while prohibited, a second-degree felony; two counts of fleeing from police, third-degree felonies; DUI; two counts of recklessly endangering another person and one of resisting arrest, all second-degree misdemeanors; possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor; and several traffic summaries.
According to Ridgway-based state police, at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, troopers were called to the Sandy Beach Recreation area for a report of shots fired from a vehicle. Jones, who was driving a white Cadillac CTS, was ordered by three troopers to stop his vehicle, but fled instead. A pursuit ensued until Jones stopped his vehicle and fled on foot; he was apprehended a short distance later.
Jones was transported to Penn Highlands Elk for suspicion of DUI. During the investigation, police learned that Jones had thrown a handgun out the window of the vehicle. Police said Jones had a prior felony conviction and is not permitted to possess a firearm.
He was arraigned before District Judge James Martin in Johnsonburg and remanded to jail in lieu of $25,000 straight bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 28 at 11:15 a.m. before Martin.
