A longtime Foster Township police officer who recently retired will take over code enforcement duties in the township.
Supervisors passed a motion at Tuesday’s regular meeting to appoint Kevin Shaffer as code enforcement officer. They accepted his retirement at the July meeting, and his final scheduled day to work as a police officer was to be July 29.
Former code enforcement officer Bob Baker resigned in May because he took issue with Supervisor Chairman George Hocker’s endorsement of District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer, who was campaigning to keep her seat as district attorney.
In other news, residents should expect delays later this week when traveling on East Main Street and Bolivar Drive.
Road foreman Chad Babcock explained the two roads have been milled and are slated to be tarred and chipped Thursday, weather permitting.
Township officials opened bids for a new sewer jetter. Three bids were submitted, with the lowest being from HotJet USA, Riverton, Utah, for $48,495. Supervisors accepted the bid, pending review of whether it met the bid specs.
Also at the meeting, supervisors approved a resolution for one new private road to be named Beechwood Drive, which is off Derrick Road. The address was previously 169 Derrick Road.
Supervisors also accepted an engineering request related to upcoming bridge projects by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The September supervisors meeting date has changed to 7 p.m. on Sept. 9 due to Labor Day.
