The Third Annual Forge Men’s Weekend, hosted by Manlihood.com is set for Aug. 23-25.
This year’s event will be held at Camp Penuel in Eldred, according to Manlihood founder, Josh Hatcher.
The idea for The Forge Men’s Weekend sprung out of the online community at Manlihood.com. “It became clear from my communication with the men online,” said Hatcher, “that there was a need for some face time. Not just virtual connection, but real life community.”
Hatcher responded to the crisis that he observed with his own toolbox as a writer and speaker — and founded Manlihood.com where he writes personal development advice for men.
“I write for men because I am a man, and I understand what that means, and what men are going through. I write from my own experience. Often, I’m writing advice to myself.”
Hatcher said that men need connection and friendship with other men.
“Our culture values individualism, which isn’t bad, but we almost worship it, and we neglect community and brotherhood. That’s a problem, and it’s why men feel alone and hopeless. I know that I have drawn tremendous strength from sitting around a fire with my buds, telling stories, and laughing at jokes.”
The results of The Forge Men’s Weekend are undeniable, according to Hatcher.
“Many of the men who attended the Forge told me that it was a turning point for them. When they need support, they have it from the brothers they built relationships with.”
The Forge Men’s Weekend will cost attendees $99, a cost which Hatcher said covers the facilities and food. Registration for the August event is open at Manlihood.com/forge
