Bradford resident Elyse Godding recently competed in the Down Under Sports golf competition in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia July 14-22.
The competition spanned across four days and three courses. The first two days featured a competition between players from the U.S. and abroad. Taiwan’s Penny Lu was the top players at one-over par and a score of 71. Godding was ninth with a score of 84.
On day two, 14-year-old Shyla Singh of Australia shot a 70 to lead the field. Godding was eighth with an 83.
In the end, the international team topped the U.S.
In addition to that two-day competition, there was a co-ed team golf contest. Godding’s co-ed team won the gross competition at nine-under.
On the final day, an all-U.S. tournament took place. Anika Richards of Florida shot a 78 to win, and Godding was the runner-up with an 81.
Judy Abbey, head girls golf coach at Bradford High, was the coach for the U.S. team. Abbey was chosen based upon her resume from Bradford and through an interview process with Down Under Sports.
