DUKE CENTER — The Otto Township Cemetery Association got some welcomed news from one of the township’s businesses this past week.
Jim Coast Sales and Services have agreed to donate not one, but two used lawn-mowing tractors for the association’s groundskeepers to use in maintaining the Rixford and Duke Center cemeteries. Proprietors Dan and Mike Coast will repair and service two trade-ins and deliver one of them to the groundskeeper, Cody Stone, who will continue to maintain the Rixford cemetery, and the other one to his helper, Larry Sutton, who will mow the Duke Center property.
Stone will construct wooden receptacles for garbage cans to be placed at each location. Visitors are asked to properly dispose of all replaced flowers and decorations. The township refuse collectors have agreed to empty the cans whenever necessary.
A community work session to trim and remove trees is scheduled for the Rixford cemetery beginning at 9 a.m. Aug. 24, with a rain date of the next day. The township supervisors have agreed to help by providing their bucket truck and an operator. All able-bodied citizens are welcomed – and encouraged – to lend a hand.
