ST. MARYS — Two St. Marys men were honored recently with the Distinguished Service to Powder Metallurgy award.
Stephen J. Lanzel, president and CEO of Catalus Corp., formerly SMC Powder Metallurgy, and Daniel P. Reardon, director of technical sales for Abbott Furnace Co., were both honored by the Metal Powder Industries Federation.
Lanzel was honored for outstanding career achievements in more than four decades of service, while Reardon was honored for his outstanding career achievements while employed by Abbott for a quarter century
Lanzel has held several positions within the company over his 44 years at this family-owned and operated business. He served on the Powder Metallurgy Parts Association (PMPA) board of directors from 1996 to 1999. He has been a dedicated APMI International member for more than 40 years and is a long-time supporter of the Center for Powder Metallurgy Technology. Lanzel is a frequent attendee at MPIF POWDERMET conferences, the MPIF Management Summit, and PMPA membership meetings.
Reardon has been with Abbott Furnace Co. for 26 years. Prior to that he honed his technical expertise over a 15-year stint with Rockwell International as a senior lab technician in their R&D lab. He attended The Pennsylvania State University, studying both mechanical engineering and electrical engineering technology. Reardon has been a member of APMI International for more than 25 years and serves as a trustee for the Center for Powder Metallurgy Technology. He served as a PM Sintering Seminar co-chair and has authored several technical papers. He currently serves on the MPIF Technical Board, as well as the MPIF Program Committee, and is a POWDERMET2019 co-chair.
Established in 1968, the award was presented by MPIF President John F. Sweet, PMT,
at POWDERMET2019, the International Conference on Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials, in Phoenix, Ariz. MPIF is the trade association for the North American metal powder and particulate materials producing and consuming industries.
The award recognizes professionals who have devoted a major part of their careers to one or more segments of the powder metallurgy industry and whose contributions and achievements deserve special recognition.
