A Bradford woman is in McKean County Jail after allegedly trying to deliver contraband to her boyfriend, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution at McKean.
Heidi M. Estes, 25, of 24 Orchard Place, Apt. 405, was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on charges of contraband other than a controlled substance and contraband-telecommunication device, both first-degree misdemeanors.
The criminal complaint states that at 12:34 a.m. Wednesday, two troopers from the Lewis Run barracks spotted a car with its parking lights on sitting in the parking lot of TJ’s Corner Store on U.S. Route 219 in Lafayette Township. The troopers pulled in behind the car and asked the operator — Estes — if she was ok.
She said she was ok; she was just waiting for a phone call from her brother. When the troopers asked her why she was parked there, she explained she bought groceries for her brother and double-bagged them in large garbage bags to deliver them to him, but she was waiting on his phone call to meet him, the criminal complaint stated.
She consented to a search of her car, and officers found items including a Motorola cell phone, assorted food items, magnets, cell phone chargers, “whip its,” Ziploc bags, cotton balls, two packs of maeng da kratom, super glue, balloons, shampoo, a cell phone screen protector, earbuds and 10 packs of Newport cigarettes, according to court records.
She later admitted she was waiting on a call from her boyfriend, an inmate at FCI-McKean, because she was planning to meet him near the fence by the driveway of the prison or at the shed in the logging yard next to the prison to deliver the items to him, the criminal complaint stated.
Estes is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, and she is scheduled to appear in Central Court on July 25.
Eldred man jailed on assault allegations
An Eldred man is in McKean County Jail after allegedly punching a man several times after the man insulted him.
John R. Blackwell Jr., 20, of 19 Railroad St., Eldred, was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on charges of simple assault and harassment, both misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, at 9:41 p.m. Tuesday, Otto-Eldred Regional Police were dispatched to 19 Railroad St. for an assault.
There, Blackwell told police that the alleged victim “had called him a child molester,” the complaint stated.
In response, Blackwell threw a book at him, and an oral altercation ensued. Blackwell struck him in the face 13 times, according to the criminal complaint.
Court records said the alleged victim was transported to Bradford Regional Medical for treatment of his injuries.
Blackwell is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on July 25.
Indecent assault charge against Bradford man dropped
An indecent assault charge filed against a Bradford man in May has been withdrawn.
William M. Duffy, 40, had been scheduled to appear for a preliminary Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone, but the single misdemeanor charge was withdrawn.
Duffy, who was accused of grabbing a man’s groin in Bradford Regional Medical Center, pleaded guilty to a summary harassment charge.
Assault charges against Bradford man withdrawn
Charges against a Bradford man who had been accused of cutting someone with a box cutter with withdrawn on Wednesday.
Michael J. Keller, 45, was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Dominic Cercone, but the case was dropped. The dismissed charges included aggravated assault, simple assault and two summary charges.
Bradford man waives hearings in three cases
A Bradford man who faces charges in three criminal cases — a flight to avoid apprehension case and two retail theft cases — waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Richard Luther.
Scott A. Canfield Jr., 36, is charged in one case with flight to avoid apprehension, a third-degree felony; and false identification to law enforcement officer, a third-degree misdemeanor. In both of the other cases he is charged with retail theft, third-degree felonies, and summary charges.
On July 4, Canfield reportedly led police on a foot chase that ended off East Main Street in Foster Township. Court records indicate he was under supervision at the time in Erie County after being convicted of retail theft and possession of an instrument of crime there.
Canfield remains incarcerated in McKean County Jail.
