SMETHPORT — The former administrator of the Kane Lutheran Home accused of stealing money was sentenced to a term in the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program.
Jessica J. Smelko, 39, of Shippenville, appeared Thursday in McKean County Court, where President Judge John Pavlock accepted Smelko’s admission into the ARD program.
When someone enters the ARD program, that person pleads guilty to the summary charges in the case, and, if the person completes any conditions ordered such as perform community service or pay fines or restitution, the misdemeanor and felony charges are dropped.
Smelko was ordered to complete 60 hours of community as part of her sentence.
She has already paid restitution. Officials did not say how much restitution she was ordered to pay.
Court records filed at the time of her arrest alleged that she failed to turn over $3,944 received for recycled scrap from the facility, and that she allegedly made purchases with multiple Lutheran Home credit cards for about $1,640.
Pavlock said he only agreed to the ARD sentence because the alleged victims were in agreement, because Smelko has no criminal history and because she has a long employment history.
