Families who would like transportation to Christmas in July event Sunday at the Old Bradford Speedway can still sign up.
The speedway and The Era’s Less Fortunate (ELF) Fund are pairing up for the event, to be held this Sunday with gates opening at 4 p.m. and the races to start at 6 p.m.
Thanks to The ELF Fund and the speedway, up to 100 children ages 16 and under, along with one adult each, will be admitted to the race track free on Sunday.
Families that would like free transportation can meet in the back of the Best Western parking lot in Bradford. The bus will leave Bradford to head to the speedway at 3 p.m.
Busing is being provided by C L McKeirnan Bus Garage in Smethport.
The bus is slated to leave the speedway at about 9:30 p.m. — around the time the races will be ending — to bring everyone back to Bradford.
Each child taking part in Christmas in July will receive a checkered flag as a souvenir, as well as a free meal. The ELF Fund will give away free books to children, too, to encourage reading. A Christmas tree will be decorated with little gifts the children and teens can take home, too.
There will be an autograph session on the track, and three lucky children will win a ride in a race car with driver Bill McKinney. Rides will be given just after the autograph session.
The ELF Fund will sell 50/50 tickets, and the winner will be announced at 9 p.m.
The ELF Fund is known for its Christmas gift program for children and seniors in the Bradford Area School District. However, the organization has been working the past few years to spread the joy across the whole year.
