WARREN – Staff at the Allegheny National Forest have completed their routine maintenance and hazard abatement on the Hopewell Campground, a boat accessible campground on the Allegheny Reservoir. The campground is now open, effective Tuesday.
Forest officials said the temporary closure was necessary for the public’s safety. The Forest Service has been working diligently to update maintenance and address hazards within the campground in order to re-open it as quickly and safely as possible.
The Forest Service is still working on the Handsome Lake campground and it remains closed. Forest officials ask that the public refrain from utilizing Handsome Lake until such work is complete. The Forest Service is committed to ensuring that the campgrounds are safe and enjoyable for the public.
Those who see hazards while camping and hiking on the Allegheny National Forest are asked to notify forest officials at the Supervisor’s Office at (814) 723-5150.
