SMETHPORT — Smethport Borough Council accepted a bid Monday to replace the security system in Hamlin Lake Park.
Besides labor, the $1,460 bid from Premier Communications of Smethport includes the installation of six analog infrared cameras, power supply and eight-channel VCR at the new restrooms and kayak launch on the Water Street side of the park.
Though this was a brief meeting, council members spent considerable time discussing the matter of property ownership of the site where Verizon proposes to place a new pole that will improve cell phone service on the south side of the borough.
Council then agreed unanimously, with two members absent, to approve the agreement if it’s determined the location is on borough property, and if not, it meets the approval of the property owner.
At its June 3 meeting, council approved the bidding of the removal of 65 tree stumps the borough has identified. However, during Monday’s meeting, council was unable to accept the lone bid for this work since it has not been advertised in a legal notice.
Council’s next meeting is at 7 p. m., August 5.
