Bradford City Fire Department was dispatched to reports of a small fire at GE Energy at the corner of Fisher Avenue and Mill Street, where Dresser-Rand formerly operated, at 10:02 a.m. on Friday.
The city department’s Capt. JD Tehle told The Era the department brought Squad 1 and Tower 1 with five firefighters to the scene.
“Something happened to where there was arcing and it shorted out a couple of transfer boxes. There was some sparks and smoke,” he explained. “When we got there, it was just smoke by the boxes. After the electricity was rerouted we got everything taken care of and nobody got hurt.”
Tehle added that employees were initially evacuated because the pair of 2,300-volt boxes that were malfunctioning were isolated to an area where they were working. He noted that other than the two electric boxes, there was no further damage sustained to equipment.
