The Blaisdell Foundation has made a generous contribution to a new project that has been introduced in McKean County.
Mattresses Across McKean County started as a group project developed by members of the 2019 Leadership McKean Class. The group’s mission is simple: “To provide mattresses to those in need in McKean County.”
As part of the class, participants were divided into five groups and given a topic with the purpose of presenting a project proposal prior to the graduation ceremony. Group members Jean Barnard, Tonia Hartzell, Amy O’Neil, Michele McCann and Donnie Hayden were assigned the topic of human services.
“We can’t thank the Blaisdell Foundation enough for their generosity and immediate support for this project. We are truly amazed at the quick response and support already given by our entire community and look forward to the journey ahead,” said Hartzell, speaking on behalf of the group.
Over the next three months, founding members will establish a board, lay the groundwork for this project, and speak to groups throughout the community in order to ensure its success and to gather volunteers throughout each school district in McKean County. Visit the group’s Facebook page by searching “Mattresses Across McKean County” or @mckeancountymattresses.
A meeting for those who are interested in volunteering will be scheduled in late fall 2019. Anyone with questions can reach out to the group at AcrossMcKean@gmail.com.
