Residents are invited to a number of events happening at Bendigo and Kinzua Bridge state parks over Fourth of July week.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 4, visitors are invited to take part in a Fish for Free event on the East Branch of the Clarion River at Bendigo State Park. No license is needed for this special day. Participants are invited to stop by to borrow fishing rods and reels or bring their own. They must obey all Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission rules. Meet near pool area.
A Veterans’ Tribute will be held at noon on July 5 at Kinzua Bridge State Park. The park will host a brief talk about the Fourth to honor the country’s birthday and the veterans that made sacrifices for her. Meet near the flag near the visitor center. Veterans are welcome.
Also on July 5, a History of Bridge program will be held at 1 p.m. on the Kinzua Bridge Skywalk. Visitors are invited to walk with park staff onto the Skywalk for a brief history and walk down its rails to the overlook.
A History Day will be held at noon July 6 in the Kinzua Bridge Visitor Center classroom. Attendees will learn about the history of McKean County with local historical societies. They will have displays set up in the classroom and a person there to answer questions. Special guest Matt Boyer will portray General Thomas Kane. Also, there will be horse and wagon rides to reminisce about the 1880s era. For more information, contact the park office at 778-5467.
At 1 p.m. July 7 in the visitor center classroom, visitors are invited to Outdoor Photography with Rocky Holland. Holland will offer tips and tricks to getting spectacular outdoor photos.
Kinzua Bridge State Park is looking for volunteers to help preserve and maintain the park. Projects include picking up litter, planting trees, maintaining the rain garden and trails, as well as preventing invasive plants from spreading. Those who want to volunteer are invited to submit their application to the park or at https://www.volunteers.dcnr.state.pa.us/index.aspx
