WILCOX — A seven-mile kayak run will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Elk State Park.
Elk State Park was home to the old town of Instanter. Where there was once a productive town with a tannery and sawmill, now a 1.160-acre lake resides over some of these remnants of the town.
A nature paddle and history of the town will be explored on the kayak tour. To learn more about the history of the town and about specific nature present at the sight, register for the paddle by calling the park office at (814) 778-5467.
Limited kayaks are available, so a first-come-first-served basis is in effect. Participants who wish to bring their own kayaks may do so, but are required to register for the day. Park officials remind participants to wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather. Meet at the Instanter boat launch Elk State Park.
