SMETHPORT — A Rew man pleaded guilty Thursday in McKean County Court to three felony cases for actions that happened over a period of two days in June 2018.
James E. Bunce Sr., 32, was accused of breaking into a camp to cause damage and steal items, serving as the getaway driver during the burglary of a Bradford business and helping set fire to the getaway truck.
He appeared Thursday in McKean County Court before Judge Christopher Hauser.
Bunce entered his plea in one case to reckless burning or exploding, a third-degree felony; in the second case to conspiracy to commit burglary, a second-degree felony, and retail theft, a third-degree felony; and in the third to criminal trespassing, a second-degree felony; theft by unlawful taking, a third-degree felony; and criminal mischief, a second-degree felony.
According to District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer, between June 28-29, Bunce broke into a Foster Township camp, damaged several items — causing a loss of $2,260.73, and took items worth $5,315.97.
Also between June 28-29, Bunce conspired with James Hammond and Michael Randolph to break into Stoney North Enterprises in Bradford; Bunce drove the vehicle, while Hammond and Randolph entered the building and took six chainsaws and a cutter with a total value of $2,971.74, Shaffer said.
Then, on June 29, Bunce conspired with Hammond to set fire to a 2013 Toyota Tacoma; the truck was destroyed, according to Shaffer.
Randolph has not been convicted of any charges and the case against him is still pending. A last day to plea conference for him is set for June 27.
Hammond pleaded May 30 to conspiring in the truck fire and the chainsaw/cutter theft. He will be sentenced June 20.
