A Bradford man is in McKean County Jail after he allegedly choked a man during a domestic dispute Tuesday evening in Bradford.
Dakota R. Allen, 22, of 136 Summer St., Bradford, was arraigned Tuesday night before District Judge Richard Luther on charges of strangulation, a second-degree felony; simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; and summary harassment.
According to the criminal complaint, at 6:38 p.m. Tuesday, Allen — who is on state parole — came home, and his stepfather approached him about breaking home plan rules related to his parole. Allen allegedly swung at his stepfather, and his stepfather tried to hug him to restrain him.
Allen reached behind and grabbed him by the throat, pressing his thumbs into his esophagus, the complaint stated.
It was then that other family members called 911.
Allen admitted to police that he choked his stepfather, but he claimed that his stepfather choked him, too. However, his stepfather and two other family members reported to police that “Allen was the only aggressor,” and his stepfather was “only trying to stop him from fighting him or hurting him,” the criminal complaint stated.
Allen’s family members told police they don’t want to see him in trouble, but they are concerned because he “was using drugs again and is out of control,” according to court records.
Allen is incarcerated in lieu of $25,000 bail, and he is scheduled to appear in Central Court on June 6.
Allen has been under state supervision since November 2016, when he was sentenced to 15 to 30 months in state prison and three years of probation for charges in two arson fires. He had credit for some time he served in county jail.
On May 18, 2016, Allen started a fire in a vacant home at 104 Maplewood Ave., Bradford. Then, on June 27, 2016 — while he was delivering newspapers for The Bradford Era — he started a fire in a Dumpster at Zippo Manufacturing Co.
