SHIPPENSBURG — Steve Kellam took 14th in the pole vault with a jump of 13-6 to lead the Bradford boys track and field team at this weekend’s Class AAA PIAA state championships.
“Steve had three good jumps at 14-0 where he was clearly over the bar but ended up touching the bar and barely knocking it off,” Bradford boys track coach Tom Tessena said. “He would have placed eighth and medaled by making it on his first attempt.”
Elsewhere, Dylan Phillips placed 25th in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.85, just .06 seconds off his personal best.
Alex Liners took 24th in the 300 hurdles in 42.78.
“Alex was also very close to his best time of the year,” Tessena said. “These two guys did well in their first appearance at states.”
Bradford’s 4×100 relay team of Owen Kane, Donny Pattison, Jake Pattison and Mike Bosworth took 26th with a time of 45.55.
The 4×400 relay team took 28th in 3:38.87.
“Unfortunately Mike Bosworth injured his knee and was not able to compete in the 200, 400 and the 4×400 relay,” Tessena said. Jake Pattison did a great job filling in for him along with junior Tyler Kraft who started us off in 52.0, freshman Jerid Wilmoth, and sophomore Alex Liners who ran a 53 split in the anchor position.”
Bradford ended the regular season with an undefeated mark and placed second at Districts.
“This was a tough season for many reasons,” Tessena said. “ I would like to thank my coaches, Mark Kelley and Dave Cercone, for the great job they did. I would also like to thank girls head coach Larry Stillman and his assistants Natalie Marasco and Matt Teribery for their help this year. Our Athletic Director Mike Erickson and Athletic Trainer Mona Cornell also were a big help to us.”
