Unofficial results released Tuesday night indicate Shawn McMahon, Elk County district attorney, led in Elk County in votes for judge of the Court of Common Pleas for Elk and Cameron counties.
McMahon and Bradley Kraus were running on both the Republican and Democratic tickets in Tuesday’s primary election.
The votes in Cameron County were not available Tuesday night, but McMahon had a commanding lead in Elk County. He received 1,757 Democratic votes and 2,052 Republican votes in the more populous county, compared to Kraus’s 1,007 Democratic votes and 1,253 Republican votes.
McMahon, who could not be reached for comment Tuesday night, lives in Ridgway with his wife, Kathy, and daughter, Karissa.
McMahon defeated incumbent Kraus in the 2013 election for district attorney. Kraus is a partner in the law firm of Meyer Wagner Brown & Kraus in St. Marys.
Judge Richard Masson retired as president judge of Elk and Cameron counties at the end of 2018, transitioning into the role of senior judge. Jefferson County President Judge John Foradora was appointed to perform administrative duties, and senior judges are being brought in to perform courtroom duties through the end of 2019.
