RIDGWAY — The “walk on the wild side” is scheduled for June 8, to begin at the Ridgway trailhead for the Clarion-Little Toby Rail Trail.
The trailhead will be transformed from a sleepy parking area into an action-packed nature event for area youth. Tricounty Rails to Trails, the group that maintains the 18-mile trail between Ridgway and Brockway, has everything in place to start the excitement at 11 a.m. The event is free and is geared towards youth five and up. Trail president Dale Fox explained how it all started in 2018.
“I have been working with youth in the Ridgway Area School District the last few years, and that triggered my idea for an event to inspire appreciation for the magnificent natural resources at our doorstep,” Fox said. “These children will be the stewards of our special places in the future”.
A large crowd is expected on June 8th, and the trail group welcomes volunteers to lend a hand from 9 a.m. on at the trailhead.
The event consists of special presenters doing hands-on nature education, a species scavenger hunt on the trail, and a youth raffle filled with tables of nature-themed gifts. Raffle prizes may be donated at Ridgway Dollar General, Ace Hardware, Cliffe’s Pharmacy, Dan Smith Candy, and H&A Auto.
