One Foster Township official has resigned his post due to what another said was really just a misunderstanding.
On Monday, code enforcement officer Bob Baker submitted his letter of resignation to the supervisors. His issue was an endorsement of McKean County District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer made last week by George Hocker, whose public statement read that it was by “George Hocker, Foster Township Supervisor.”
Baker, who said he has a personal issue with Shaffer’s handling of a case involving the victimization of a family member, was bothered by the impression Hocker’s statement would give to the voting public in Foster Township.
On Friday, Hocker released a signed statement of support for Shaffer. It began with a sentence introducing Hocker as chairman of the township supervisors.
“I was disgusted and shocked to learn that Mr. Hocker used his elected title to endorse (Shaffer) on behalf of Foster Township,” Baker said.
Hocker said Monday that he didn’t mean for his endorsement to be from his elected office, but rather as a personal decision.
“I really believe it was a misunderstanding,” Hocker said. He said he was sorry to see Baker go, and added, “I won’t say anything bad about him. I don’t have any hard feelings.”
