The Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau has announced the new McKean County Historical Geo Trail.
Fashioned for geocachers who are passionate about both the outdoors and history, 22 caches are waiting to be discovered along the trail. This geo trail remains active until May 31, 2020.
The official kick-off event for the new McKean County Historical Geo Trail will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the Kinzua Bridge State Park Visitors Center. Geo passports for the trail will be available at the kick-off event or they may be downloaded at VisitANF.com/recreation.
To be eligible for the new trackable, geo coin fashioned from black cherry timber for which this area of Pennsylvania is famous, participating cachers will need to locate and record on their geo passport 20 of the 22 unique caches along the McKean County Historical Geo Trail. The artwork on the coin features a stylized Kinzua Sky Walk over an outline of the Pennsylvania Keystone. As a bonus, cachers who post a picture at each location will receive their coin, as well as, a free copy of the Legends & Lore of the Allegheny National Forest DVD.
