DUKE CENTER — Progress is being made in the collection of past due sewage and garbage accounts in Otto Township.
At the monthly meeting Thursday night, it was reported that of the 66 delinquents, 33 have paid in full and 11 requested a payment plan to be established.
The remaining 22 failed to acknowledge the problem and their bills will be sent to the district magistrate.
The supervisors emphasized the importance of maintaining these services and retaining them at the township level to ensure adequate service is extended at minimal cost to all residents.
Township employees will be offered the option to rent work clothes, with a weekly clothing allowance for each participating worker. This was motioned and carried unanimously by the supervisors.
They also approved accepting televisions during spring clean-up at no additional charge.
Clean-up date this year is June 10, the Monday after township-wide garage sale weekend.
In addition to the annual clean-up, the township will be participating in a recycling collection event on June 29, when televisions and other electronic devices will be accepted.
Residents are urged to participate in this recycling program.
The proposed sheriff sale of 22 Sweitzer Drive went back to the bank and the one at 1758 Looker Mountain Trail was removed from sheriff sale. Up for judicial sale on July 10 are two properties — 147 Fullerton Road and 13 Oil Valley Road.
Supervisor chairman Chris Claycomb was approved to take the necessary class to obtain spraying certification, enabling him to spray the township park for weed control, saving the township the expense of hiring the task out.
All township residents are encouraged to be proactive in their community by attending township meetings and serving on the committees that are set up to improve the township.
The next township meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 12 at the township office in Duke Center.
