A preliminary hearing has been set for later this month for a Bradford man accused of leading police on a high-speed chase and ramming an officer’s patrol car.
Michael Ray Stone, 28, of 469 Bolivar Drive, will face a hearing before District Judge Rich Luther at 1 p.m. May 22.
According to court records, at 3:22 p.m. April 28, a Foster Township Police officer was monitoring for speeding vehicles on Seaward Avenue when he observed a silver Saturn drive by at a speed of 46 mph in a 25 mph zone. The officer attempted to stop the car, but the driver — later identified as Stone — didn’t stop.
Stone cut through a parking lot and up Bolivar Drive, reaching speeds of 60 mph in residential areas, police allege. He turned at numerous side streets before approaching Bolivar Drive again, where Bradford City Police attempted to stop him with a police car. However, Stone struck the cruiser, and then went back onto Bolivar Drive and got on to U.S. Route 219, traveling up to 100 mph and crossing into New York state, court records allege.
Stone turned off Route 219 and onto a dirt road in New York, at which point Foster Township Police Chief Tom Munn advised them to terminate the pursuit.
Bradford City Police continued to pursue him, and Stone wrecked his car and was taken into police custody, the records allege.
The criminal complaint indicates Stone will be responsible for damages done to the police cruisers for Bradford City, Foster Township and Bradford Township during the incident.
Stone is charged with aggravated assault, a first-degree felony; fleeing from police, a third-degree felony; six counts of recklessly endangering another person, second-degree misdemeanors; one count each of disorderly conduct and accidents involving damage, a third-degree misdemeanor; and 12 summary traffic violations. He remains jailed in lieu of $30,000 bail.
He is represented by court-appointed attorney Christopher Martini.
