Over 100 people came out to participate in the clean-up events that took place in Bradford on Saturday.
Within the Downtown Historic District and the Second Ward Neighborhood, volunteers collected nearly 60 bags of litter. Volunteers also swept off sidewalks and cleaned out flowerbeds, said Main Street Manager Sarah Matzner.
A third clean-up took place at the old Project Pride Community Garden on Bank Street.
“We were approached by Lou Costa of Ironmill and Josh Hatcher of Manlihood about restoring the garden. They wanted to get to work immediately and it lined up perfectly with our other Clean-Up Events,” said Matzner.
The Downtown Bradford Business District Authority awarded $100.00 to Cub Scout Pack 412 for bringing the most members to the Clean-Up. They had more than 40 troop members participate. Other groups who came out to help included The Bradford Raptors Football Team, Bradford Area High School’s Key Club, Open Arms Community Church and the Rising Leaders of Bradford.
Matzner also lauded the assistance of the city’s fire department for hosing off the sidewalks on Main Street.
“We really appreciate the fire department doing this for us. It makes a big difference,” she said.
“I want to personally thank every single person who volunteered with us this past Saturday. In addition to the groups, we had people come out with their families and as individuals. It was wonderful to see how many people care about our community.”
