PUNXSUTAWNEY — Quadruples from Regan Johnson and Erica Marshall weren’t enough as the Bradford girls track and field team fell to Punxsutawney 78-72 on Tuesday.
The Lady Owls, which finished their regular season slate at 5-2, had their usual strong showings in the relays, sweeping all three events.
“It was a close, competitive meet between two evenly matched teams,” Bradford girls track coach Larry Stillman said. “We had a lot of good performances today and improved in a lot of areas.”
Marshall, who took first in the 300 hurdles with a personal-best 48.94, was a part of each of those winning teams.
She joined Mackenzie Lucas, Alix Ordiway and Johnson in the 400 relay (52.0), Mikah Watkins, Lucas and Emily Bosworth in the 1600 (4:22.40) and Hannah Lary, Lucas and Bosworth in the 3200 (10:40.31).
Johnson, meanwhile swept the 100 and 200 sprints in 12.87 and 26.18 runs, respectively. Johnson rounded out her meet with a first-place distance of 15-10 in the long jump.
Stillman also credited distance runner Hannah Lary for her “tremendous performances” in the 1600 and 3200. Stillman said it was Lary’s first run in the 3200 this year, which she won in 12:34.75.
Punxsutawney was led by Taegan Ludwig, who tripled in the shot put, discus and javelin.
Personal bests for the Lady Owls on the day included Ally Luke’s shot put distance of 32-5 as well as Lydia Pompa’s toss of 99-11 in the javelin. Both marks were good for second place.
Bradford will regroup for the 2019 District Championships, set for next Friday in Brookville. The Lady Owls have won the past two D-9 titles.
“This was a good tune-up for Districts,” Stillman said. “I am looking forward to it this year and I really believe it’s going to be close. All four teams are evenly matched which should make for a really exciting meet and a lot of fun.”
