Assault charges against Bradford man bound to court
Aggravated assault allegations against a Bradford man were bound to McKean County Court at a preliminary Monday before District Judge William Todd.
Matthew J. Wells, 24, is charged with aggravated assault, a first-degree felony; simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; and summary harassment.
Court records stated that at 7:13 a.m. Saturday, several Lewis Run-based state troopers were dispatched to Wells’s home for a report of an assault between two males. When they arrived, Wells approached the patrol vehicle with his hands up.
In a subsequent interview with police, Wells said that he and Ryan McCalla were on an online chatroom speaking to strangers, when McCalla became upset with Wells and wanted Wells to leave. McCalla grabbed Wells and tried to escort him out, and Wells punched him about four times, according to the criminal complaint. Wells had injuries to his right hand.
McCalla told police that “Wells punched him in the face for no apparent reason,” the complaint stated.
According to court records, McCalla was transported to Bradford Regional Medical Center and treated for injury to his jaw, which was broken in four places; also, four of his teeth were knocked out. Wells was taken to BRMC for evaluation of his injuries, too.
Wells, who was initially incarcerated in lieu of $30,000 bail, had his bail lowered to $10,000 on Monday but remains in McKean County Jail, court records indicate.
Bradford man jailed on assault allegations
A Bradford man is in McKean County Jail for allegations he assaulted a woman late Saturday night.
Joseph L. Frontino, 38, of 40 Gilbert Lane, was arraigned Sunday before District Judge Richard Luther on charges of strangulation, a second-degree felony, and simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaint, at 11:14 p.m. Saturday, an officer was dispatched for a report of a domestic dispute. Frontino is accused of pulling a female from the passenger seat of his vehicle, picking her up by the neck and slamming her to the ground in the yard. He then allegedly held her down on the ground by her neck.
Frontino also threw her purse on the garage roof so she did not have access to her cell phone, the complaint stated.
He is incarcerated in McKean County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail, and he is scheduled to Central Court on Thursday.
Lewis Run brothers plead guilty of receiving stolen property
A pair of brothers from Lewis Run have pleaded guilty to charges of receiving stolen property in connection to the alleged theft of scrap from a local cemetery.
Michael S. Conner, 48, of 49 Rocky Run Road, and Paul Conner Jr., 52, of 39 Rocky Run Road, were scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge David Engman.
Court records indicate that on Monday, the Conners each pleaded guilty to a receiving charge, while charges of theft of secondary metal were withdrawn.
Court records filed at the time of their arrest indicated that in March, a caretaker at McKean Memorial Park Cemetery called police to report someone had taken a pile of scrap metal from the back of their property. He said he’d had problems with the Conners before. Police spoke to them, and they admitted taking the metal, records alleged.
Each is free on $2,500 unsecured bail.
