Saturday’s cold weather may have deterred some from participating the CASA’s 5K run/walk, but to Suzy Meyer-Page –– executive director of CASA in McKean County –– the event was a success.
“Due to the weather, we only had 18 runners/walkers participate with four of them not finishing because it was just too cold,” Page said. “There were 10 kids that did the Fun Run. They seemed to really enjoy themselves chasing the villain down the street. That was the highlight of the event for me.”
Page explained that since the number of participants was low, there were no categories for runners and every runner received a medal for “braving the cold to be there.” She added costume awards were also handed out.
“Because of the sponsorships that we received prior to the event, we were still able to raise some funds for our program,” she said, while giving praise to those who participated and volunteered.
“There were many other places that they could have been at 8 a.m. on a frigid Saturday morning, but they chose to support CASA of McKean County,” Page said.
