RIDGWAY — Peggy Brown Schneider has announced her candidacy for re-election to the office of Elk County treasurer.
Schneider started employment with the county treasurer’s office in 1982 as a clerk, advancing to deputy treasurer and commissioned acting treasurer by then Gov. Robert P. Casey to fill the unexpired term of the retiring treasurer. She won her first election in 1988. In the 1995 and 1999 Primary Election she won both the Democratic and Republican nominations.
Prior to serving the County of Elk Schneider was a licenses insurance agent with Nicklas Insurance Agency.
The interest of the citizens of Elk County has always come first with Schneider.
To better serve the citizens of Elk County, she contracted with Pennsylvania Dog License for the online purchase of dog licenses making it more convenient for dog owners. Any county expense incurred with the renewal of dog license is reimbursed by the Department of Agriculture.
When the Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission implemented a point of sale computer system for the onsite printing of licenses, county treasurers were forced to compete for the sale of hunting licenses. In an ongoing effort to serve the sports men and women and to retain the proceeds from the sale of licenses for the county, Schneider rented additional printers and utilized volunteers to expedite the processing of the antlerless hunting license.
Schneider serves as a voting member on the salary board, retirement board, prison board and the record storage board in a policy making capacity.
To keep up with the ever-changing laws, rules, and regulations associated with the function of the treasurer’s office, Schneider is a member of the Pennsylvania County Treasurer’s Association serving on the Antlerless Hunting License Committee. The association meets three times a year for continuing education.
