BAHS Alumni Association
The Bradford Area High School Alumni Association held its April meeting at the Model T Inn with 24 members attending.
The group finalized 2019 scholarship plans with a decision made to present four awards this year to honor the classes of 1953, 1958 and 1951, all having donated their remaining treasuries to the association during the past year, as well as one to the memory of John Kaufman. The award for Kaufman, a World War II veteran and BAHS graduate who went on to work as an aerospace engineer for NASA’s space flight program including the Apollo and Space Shuttle projects, has been funded by his nieces, Shirley Burkhouse and Linda Trulick.
The committee will review applications during the first week in May and make selections; presentations will be conducted at the BAHS award assembly June 4; and the annual scholar lunch will be held June 13 at the Bradford Club for the winners and their guests.
Menu selections for the June luncheon were decided on during the meeting, as were those for the fall banquet scheduled for Oct. 5, also at the Bradford Club, in order that mailings could be processed to go out to members during June.
Revenue for 2019 to date from dues and donations, both of which fund the scholarship program, was reported to be very good with only a small number of renewal forms yet to be received and new members continuing to join.
The next meeting will be held May 23.
