A Bradford man is in McKean County Jail after being accused of cashing two fraudulent checks and stealing money from a Bradford business.
Curtis D. Howard, 30, was arraigned Monday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on two counts each of forgery, second-degree felonies, and theft by deception, first-degree misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, in March, Howard wrote two checks that belonged to Allegheny Store Fixtures to himself. He cashed one on March 22 for $510.75 and the other March 28 for $535.80.
Funds of $1,046.55 were paid to Howard, but it was later determined that he made two counterfeit checks with the checking account information for Allegheny Store Fixtures and cashed them, the complaint stated.
Howard is incarcerated in McKean County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on May 9.
This is not the first time Howard was accused of similar actions.
In 2017, he pleaded guilty to charges of forgery and theft by deception for allegations that he wrote a check from a closed account that was in his father’s name for $1,347.81 to the Little Power Shop to obtain auto parts and labor. He was sentenced to a jail term of three to 18 months.
