A Bradford man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly attempting to evade police in a chase that spanned from Seaward Avenue to New York State.
Foster Township Police Officer Kevin Shaffer told The Era that 28-year-old Michael Stone of Bradford was going 46 mph in a 25 mph zone in a Saturn car on Seaward Avenue, when a Foster Township police officer attempted to stop Stone at 3:22 p.m.
“It started on Seaward Avenue, went up Bolivar Drive, came back down Bolivar, went up through Kenmore Acres, back out onto and down Bolivar, up (U.S. Route) 219 into New York State, and then they traveled on a dirt road,” Shaffer said. “It was quite a long chase.”
Shaffer explained that in addition to going 46 mph in a 25 mph zone on Seaward, Stone reached 60 mph on Bolivar Drive and was driving around 100 mph on Route 219.
“He struck a Bradford City police car on Bolivar Drive,” he added.
Bradford City Police Chief Chris Lucco said nobody was injured in the incident. City police’s Assistant Chief Mike Ward assisted Foster Township Police during the chase –– which ended in Limestone, N.Y., according to Foster Township Police Chief Thomas Munn.
Shaffer said Officer Reuben Donovan, with Foster Township, was the arresting officer.
Court records indicate the following charges were filed against Stone: aggravated assault, a first-degree felony; fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, a third-degree felony; six counts of recklessly endangering another person, second-degree misdemeanors; one count each of disorderly conduct and accident involving damage to attended vehicle/property, third-degree misdemeanors.
He also faces summary charges of exceeding the maximum speed limit by 21 mph, driving an unregistered vehicle, operating a vehicle without valid inspection, operating a vehicle without required financial responsibility, careless driving, reckless driving, obedience to traffic control devices, turning movements and required signals, driving at a safe speed, driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked, driving without a license and allow illegal use of plate/card.
