DUKE CENTER — The Otto Township Cemetery Association is getting some much-needed — and much-welcomed — help.
At the most recent session of community-themed Terror Talks at Otto-Eldred High School on Thursday, Otto Township Cemetery Association president Sharon Schwab gave a brief overview of the two cemeteries and the progress of the newly-formed association. This resulted in graduating senior Colin Hakes volunteering to do his required community work in the two cemeteries in conjunction with the association.
Legal counsel is being sought to enable the association to move forward. Donations are being held until necessary legalities are complete and a bank account is established. A survey of both properties will be done when the weather allows.
Also, aerial drone photographs have been taken and will be used to sketch the pictures of the properties with the proposed work completed.
Officials said trees need to be trimmed and removed, especially at the Rixford site, and markers and headstones need repaired and repositioned. A date for a work party will be announced at the association’s next meeting, May 16.
