COUDERSPORT — A Westfield, Tioga County, man has died of injuries he suffered in a crash April 14 in Harrison Township, Potter County.
Coudersport-based state police reported that Howard W. Phillips, 91, of Westfield, was pronounced dead at 5:51 a.m. April 20 at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
According to police, at 9:31 a.m. April 14, a tractor-trailer driven by Lee F. Mitchell, 64, of Westfield, was traveling north on Teed Hollow Road, and tried to turn into the westbound lane of Route 49. The tractor-trailer struck the front bumper of a car driven by Phillips that was traveling east on Route 49.
Mitchell was not injured, but Phillips was flown by medical helicopter to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police reported. Phillips’s car was towed from the scene.
Police did not indicate if charge would be filed, but Pennsylvania online court docket system shows that summary traffic charges of careless driving and failing to obey stop and yield signs have been filed against Mitchell for allegations April 14 in Harrison Township.
