WESTFIELD — Thirty strikeouts, zero earned runs and just eight walks over his last three starts.
His statistics have been phenomenal and they’ve also allowed Port Allegany to all but erase its early season troubles.
Howie Stuckey again spun a gem on the mound, striking out 11 batters and allowing just a single hit during a complete game performance to lead the Gators to a 3-2 victory over Cowanesque Valley in a non-league contest Wednesday.
Led by Stuckey, the Gators have won three out of four after an 0-3 start.
“He was nothing short of outstanding again,” Port Allegany coach Nate Zitnik said. “He has been outstanding his last three outings and even the runs he gave up today were kind of a fluke thing.”
Port Allegany (3-4) committed two errors in the game, and got into a jam with two runs coming home in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one-run game.
“Give Howie credit for not getting flustered,” Zitnik said. “And give the guys credit for pulling it together. (Assistant coach Lance Baker) and I were impressed with how these young guys did that and came out with a win.”
The Gators have won Stuckey’s last three starts by scores of 6-0, 10-0 and 3-2.
Port Allegany put together all of its offense in the top half of the fifth inning via an RBI from Tre Ayers before Montgomery Tanner knocked in two runs later in the frame.
Zitnik credited number nine hitter Isaiah Caden for getting the inning started with a single. He and Ayers had two hits in the game.
Port Allegany heads over the border to face Allegany-Limestone this afternoon.
Coudersport 13, Galeton/NoPo 0, 5 innings
GALETON — Jackson Glover allowed just two hits in his first career start on the mound to send Coudersport to another decisive Northern Allegheny League victory.
Glover threw all five innings for the Falcons (8-2, 5-1) striking out five and walking just one.
“Thought Jackson went out and did a really nice job on the mound in his first start,” Coudersport coach Doug McClintic said. “Five innings and 62 pitches is pretty efficient. Really nice performance by a sophomore.”
Coudersport’s offense was highlighted by a two-run homer from Kullen Crosby in the sixth inning.
Also keying the Falcons’ 11-hit performance were Kolby VanWhy (double, two RBI), Shea Osgood (double, three RBI) and Dillon Keglovits (double).
Galeton starter Tre Slawson allowed nine runs over four innings of work for the Tigers (0-6, 0-3), which have given up at least nine runs in all but one game this season.
