SHINGLEHOUSE — The Bradford Owls softball team has been waiting a while to put together a complete game effort at the plate.
After scoring just 10 runs total over their first six games of the season, Bradford got it during a non-league game against Oswayo Valley on Wednesday.
Bradford slugged 14 hits and knocked off the Lady Green Wave 15-7 for its first win of the season
Emily Warner had a monster game for the Lady Owls (1-6), putting together a complete game performance on the mound as well as crushing a solo home run as part of her four-hit day at the plate.
“The girls played a great game tonight,” Bradford softball coach Amy Stolz said. “They were hitting the ball well and played great defense; they kept their heads in the game the whole time.”
For the Lady Owls, it’s the team’s first victory since 2017.
“It was great to get a win,” Stoltz added.
Mackenzee Maley and Haleigh Reid each had three hits for Bradford, which used a 10-run fourth inning to pull away from Oswayo Valley after trailing 4-3.
Karina West took the loss for the Green Wave (1-4).
“A lot of young players and a really bad fourth inning,” OV coach Tim Morey said in explaining his team’s loss. “Had a bunch of errors and didn’t catch some pop flys. Pitching did OK, we just didn’t play defense behind her.”
West had two hits and two RBI at the plate for Oswayo Valley.
Otto-Eldred 10, Galeton 2
GALETON — Seventeen hits at the plate and another quality start from Abby Wolfe kept Otto-Eldred’s undefeated season rolling.
The Lady Terrors (9-0, 5-0) scored in every inning on the heels of three hits each from Reilly Raught and Gabby Nickerson as well as two from Haylee Frederick.
Raught notched two doubles, Frederick added two extra-base hits and two RBI and Nickerson knocked in two runs.
“Excellent day at the plate for us,” Otto-Eldred coach Roger Veilleux said. “The field conditions were a little soggy with all the rain and it made it tough to run, but we made do.”
In the circle, Wolfe allowed six hits and no walks while striking out to nine in a complete game victory. She also added two RBI at the plate to help her own cause.
Regan Fuller took the loss on the mound for Galeton (4-4, 2-3).
The Lady Terrors return to play after the Easter break.
