BROOKVILLE — Steve Kellam took Bradford’s only first place finish, and Mike Bosworth earned two top-five places to lead the Bradford boys track and field team at the Brookville Invite over the weekend.
Kellam took first in the pole vault with a distance of 13-6.
“Steve had a great attempt at 14’ but bumped the crossbar ever so slightly,” Bradford coach Tom Tessena said. “At first it looked like it was going to stay up but then fell. Steve has been very consistent and that height will fall soon.”
Bosworth, meanwhile, took second in the 400 in 52.15 seconds, narrowly losing to a Brookville runner at the finish. He also placed fifth in the 200 in a personal best 23.34 and anchored two relays to second place finishes.
Brookville took home most of the day’s first places, including its 4×100 relay team that ran the fastest time in the state at 42.34.
Bradford’s team of Owen Kane, Donny Pattison, Nik Erickson and Bosworth ran a time of 45.52 for the season-best time.
“We now have the right order and are working very hard at the handoffs,” Tessena said. “This was the best those handoffs looked so far and all the guys ran well. It was the same story in the 4x400M relay. Tyler Kraft, freshman Jerid Wilmoth, Sophomore Alex Liners, and Mike Bosworth ran their best time of 3:35.68 but found themselves several seconds behind Brookville. We pushed them a little especially our lead off man Tyler Kraft who ran 52.5.”
Kraft and Wilmoth also placed second and third in the 800 in 2:06.46 and 2:06.93, respectively.
Alex Liners also took fifth in the 300 intermediate hurdles (43.94); Pattison eighth in the 100 (11.71).
Elsewhere, DaeMone Patterson had two personal bests in the high jump (6-2, which tied him for 10th on Bradford’s all-time list) and fourth in the triple jump (41-8.5).
Dylan Phillips and Patterson also ran their best times in the 110 high hurdles with Phillips taking sixth in 16.09 and Patterson seventh in 16.12.
Gavin McGee had his best high jump with a leap of 5’8”.
“Gavin always works hard and he had a good attempt at 5’10” as well,” Tessena said. “He is just a sophomore and will continue to improve.
The 4×800 relay team of Gabe Mitchell, Steve Morgan, David Allen and Jerid Wilmoth placed fifth in 9:11.83.
Rounding out the Owls’ results for the day were Donny Pattison in the 200 (24.56), Jake Pattison in the 400 (56.47), Owen Kane in the 100 (12.22), and Quentin Minard and Kraft in the 1600 at 5:13.94 and 4:58.27, respectively.
Nate Blauser also long jumped(18-1), triple jumped (37-3) and threw the javelin(113-3). Kevin Ackerman and Josh Mackey threw the shot put (38-10: and 36-4.75, respectively). Mackey also threw the discus 106-8 as did Mitch Signor, with a personal best 97-11.
“We had some solid performances today and some weak spots that we have to improve,” Tessena said. “Our main rival for Districts, Punxsutawney, looked great everywhere. They beat us in almost every event so we have a tough road ahead of us but we have 5 weeks to improve and get healthy. We host Brookville on Tuesday and I would encourage any Track fan to come out and see these guys. They have quite a few of the top people in the whole State of Pennsylvania and it will be worth the time.”
