On Tuesday, a jury found Mindy L. Logue guilty of setting fire in 2018 to a Port Allegany rental unit out of which she was moving.
Logue, 59, was convicted at the end of a two-day trial at the McKean County Courthouse, District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer announced.
According to Shaffer, Logue was found guilty of arson (endangering persons — firefighters), a first-degree felony; arson (endangering building), a second-degree felony; arson (endangering building), reckless burning and criminal mischief, all third-degree felonies; and recklessly endangering another person (firefighters).
Trooper Kathleen Watters, deputy fire marshal, investigated the case, said Shaffer, who described the allegations in a press release following the trial.
“The investigation began after a passing motorist called into 911 and reported a structure fire at a residence at 240 N. Brooklynside Road, Port Allegany, on March 6, 2018,” she stated. “The defendant rented the property. Approximately 25 firefighters from Port Allegany and surrounding areas responded to the call.”
According to Shaffer, Logue’s action put those 25 firefighters at risk of harm.
“The trial included testimony from firemen about the dangers they face with each fire, particularly residential fires — risk due to collapse, inhalation of toxic fumes, and entrapment. The property was considered a total loss,” she explained.
Shaffer prosecuted the case, and Public Defender Philip Clabaugh defended Logue.
Logue will be sentenced at 1 p.m. April 25.
Court records filed at the time Logue was first arrested indicated that she was in the process of moving out of a rental she had lived in for about seven years, and she was alleged to have started the fire by igniting paper with a lighter next to a couch.
The rental property was owned by George Hults, and damage from the fire exceeded $65,000, the complaint had indicated.
