An Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social will highlight the seasonal opening of the Penn Brad Oil
Museum.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m. on April 13 at the museum.
Hosting this event will be the museum’s board of directors. Participants will have the opportunity to meet the museum board members and staff, enjoy historical movie presentations in the “Doghouse Theater,” check out the museum exhibits and finally have fun, making your own ice cream sundae. Sloppy joe sandwiches, fresh popcorn, cookies, cupcakes and soda pop will also be available.
The event admission is free and open to the general public.
On Monday, the museum opened for its 48th year offering visitors tours and exhibits. Museum hours are from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The museum will again welcome bus and school group tours. Prior arrangement may be
made by calling the museum at 362-1955.
Improvements made to the museum during the winter hiatus include a new “Music Mountain” display now including the original lumber camp that pre-existed the oil strike in 1937. It also displays a copy of the 1937 “The Bradford Era” newspaper that details the historical oil strike. The newspaper was donated by the Bradford Landmark Society.
Penn Brad Oil Museum is a Blue Star Museum and welcomes current service men and women and their families to tour the museum free of charge throughout the season.
