ALTOONA — Regan Johnson powered the Bradford girls track and field team with a strong performance to start the spring season at the Altoona Igloo Invite on Saturday.
The Lady Owl junior took first in the 100 (12.88), first in the 200 (26.67), anchored the 4×100 relay team that finished third with a time of 52.66 and placed fourth in the long jump (16-.5).
Bradford had a strong day in the relay events, with a first place finish in the 4×800 by the team of Erica Marshall, Marissa Miller, Hannah lary and Emily Bosworth (10:30.23). Bradford coach Larry Stillman said that time was the fastest in that event by Bradford in seven years.
The same quartet of girls then finished in second in the 4×400 in 4:2187.
In addition to Bosworth’s relays, she took second place (2:28.53) in the 800.
“We had a good start to our season,” Stillman said. “The weather was great and we were able to get many of our athletes into the meet.”
No team scores were recorded at the Invite.
Others who competed for Bradford in the sprints were Alise Hassek (100, 14.56; 200, 14.56), Lanie Allen (100, 15.02), Mikah Watkins (200, 29.93; 400, 67.55), Chloe Shaw (400, 79.54), Lary (1600, 5:50.17), Shea Crissman (3200, 13:33.72), and Bethany Bednez (3200, 14:30.19).
Crissman took fifth place in the 3200 and Lary placed sixth in her 1600 run.
Led by Marshall’s 12th-place finish in the 300 hurdles, the Owls also had two other competitors there: Haley Hallock (100, 20.78; 300, 58.71), and Lauren Placer (100, 21.54; 300, 59.31),
Mikayla Bond led the Lady Owls in the jumps with a ninth place finish at the high jump (4-8) and 13th in the triple (31-2.75). Alix Ordiway (long, 13-8.5), Kayelyn Eschrich (long, 13-2.75; high, 4-4), Mackenzie Lucas (triple, 27-4) and Jessica Fox (high, 4-6).
Lucas took 10th in the pole vault with a distance of 7-6, while Alexis Huber and Abby Nuzzo tied for 13th with a landing of 7-0.
“Lydia Pompa had a good javelin throw (90-6) and Ally Luke (29-5.5) and Jessica Kerr (25-4) had good throws in the shot put,” Stillman said.
Rounding out the throws were Kerr (shot put, 25-4), Kylee Grover (discus, 62-4) and Chloe Shaw (javelin, 69-0).
“It was nice to get going and to see the kids compete,” Stillman concluded.
Bradford travels to St. Marys on Tuesday.
